Past rivalries put aside as Graeme Souness CBE and Sir Alex Ferguson team up to help stop the pain of EB

There was a time when football legends, Graeme Souness CBE, and Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn’t be seen in the same room together. In the early 1990’s when Souness’ Liverpool was battling it out on the pitch with arch-rivals, Manchester United, led by ‘The Boss’, the idea of these two greats teaming up would have been out of the question.

How times have changed!

For one night only, Graeme and Sir Alex are teaming up to help secure treatments for a painful genetic skin blistering condition.

On Thursday 10th July, these two legends of the game will be making a rare appearance together at an evening event in Manchester’s Hilton Hotel in aid of EB charity, DEBRA UK.

Graeme and Sir Alex, along with other footballing greats, will be sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes stories from their trophy laden careers to entertain those lucky enough to secure a place. The event is also an opportunity to raise much needed awareness and funding for potentially life-changing drug treatments.

Graeme explains more:

“I’ve known Sir Alex for more years than I can remember. I can’t say we were the best of friends back in the day, certainly not during my time at Liverpool. However, as I’ve got older, I’ve possibly mellowed…. a bit! And I’m delighted that Sir Alex has agreed to help support a cause that is so close to my heart.

I am the Vice President of DEBRA UK, the national charity that supports my wee friend, Isla Grist, and many other children and adults living with this horrendous skin blistering condition.  Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), also known as butterfly skin, is currently incurable and makes the skin as fragile as a butterfly’s wing.

We’re going to have some fun on the night, and I am so grateful to Sir Alex for supporting me with this. However, there is a serious side; everyone attending will be helping DEBRA UK to get a step closer to securing drug treatments for EB. These treatments really could be transformational, helping to stop the extreme pain and discomfort these kids are in, pretty much every hour of every day.

I hope you can join Sir Alex and I plus a few of our friends up in Manchester this July”.

The ‘An evening with Graeme Souness, Sir Alex Ferguson and footballing friends, sponsored by Manchester-based global business Peninsula Group, takes place on Thursday 10th July at the Hilton Hotel in Deansgate, Manchester.
